The 4th International Workshop on Smart Materials & Structures (SM&S) will be jointly organized with the 3rdInternational Meeting on Materials for Electronic Applications (IMMEA). The first and second IMMEA have been the encounter Forum for materials scientists from the Maghreb and middle-east countries while SM&S has been regularly organized in Kiel, Germany, and has hosted scientists mostly from Europe, Japan, China and USA. This joint Event should serve as an encounter forum for scientists from all over the world and particularly for scientists from Europe and south Mediterranean countries, aiming to help networking between the two communities. A particular attention will be paid to the participation of graduate students, and special packages for its promotion will be worked out. Emphasis of the conference will be placed on topics related to materials for energy harvesting, catalysis, sensing, environmental safety and sustainable growth.

Outstanding papers are sought in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Nanomaterials for energy devices
  • Ferroelectrics and magnetoelectrics for energy harvesting. Ferroelectric, magnetic cooling
  • Thermoelectric materials and their exploitation potential
  • Mixed conducting membranes for fuel conversion
  • Nanomaterials for photocatalysis, applications to water cleaning
  • Porous materials for heterogeneous catalysis
  • Nanomaterials for sensing applications
Papers dealing with all aspects related to materials processing, characterization, microstructure manipulation, modeling, application and device fabrication will be welcome.
